WELCOME, DEAR WRITERS

TO AZURE LORICA'S ANNUAL WRITER'S GALA

About the Gala

HOSTED ANNUALLY AT PASADENA, CA

Presented at the Donald R. Wright Auditorium, in the Pasadena Central Library, the Azure Lorica Writer's Gala is a celebration of Azure Lorica's winning writers, from our festivals, to magazines, and published books. We honor scriptwriters, journalists, and many more with a live reading in a 147 seat theater, with beautifully restored 1930's velvet seats (with a top hat holster under each seat), preserved by the magnificent Pasadena Central Library and its Patrons. The event is free, inviting new volunteers, returning members, and the public to enjoy live readings from professional actors, and stories by none other than our honored Writers.

Azure Lorica Writer's Gala is a fundraiser, supporting Azure Lorica's continued service in social justice through art. As a 501c3 nonprofit charity organization, we provide live entertainment, published media, and many more, all for free. Operating through our supporter's donations, and the generous help of our volunteers, this Gala is a wonderful event for the community to enjoy the arts, while giving back to the community.

We welcome you to join us for our next Writer's Gala, by subscribing today!

Today, I got a chance to interviewed the "Linus" of Charlie Brown – Josh Johnson who gave the character full passion. He wants to share some of his thoughts on this live reading and his aspects of being an actor!

Q1. Can you please give us some background about yourself?

Hello, my name is Joshua. I have been acting since I was six. My elementary school did a “Chicken little the sky is falling”. They said: “We need a guy to play Turkey Lurkey!” During the performance, I was moving forward to my final line. Everyone was wearing the duck feet so I fall on my butt and the whole audience laughed. At that time, I realized that I was the one who made everyone laughed and I want to continue doing this.

Q2. You got a B.S in biology and M.S in theartre arts plus acting arts. What made you do you rlife shift like this?

This is a huge shift for my life. Performance is always my hobby and I did a lot of theater in my teenager years; however, I never pursued my dream. This is where my passion is and the passion can keep us alive.

Q3. Can you tell us why you choose Charlie Brown?

I love old comics; I have read Charlie Brown a lot when I was little. I think everyone can see themselves in Charlie Brown. Charlie Brown always has a lot of graves, but he gets blessed and welcomed when good things happened. I guess everyone can see their past moments in Charlie Brown. I like Linus a lot; especially how wise and innocent he is at the same time. He is always quoting like Hemmingway but also needs to hold on his blanket so tight.

Q4. What is your most favorite scene in your performance life so far?

did a stage called” Tallgrass Gothic”, it is a very dark drama. My character was super heck, it you look at him, he probably was doing myth. In the story, he tried to convinced Heroin: “If I do this for you, will you have sex with me?”. He also offered to kill her husband and he did. She doesn’t want to honor her bargain as he convinced her. So I was doing this with my partner. We kissed, she wrapped her legs around me when I put her down. We weren’t even the focal point but this is the first time for me to be this intense. It is very fun to show his disappointment. At the end, he found out that all he wants is her love, not her body which he only got. Then he turned this back on her and said: “You are not a diamond like I thought, you are just a piece of sand.” This is the scene I love the most, I like to play dark and intense roles because I believe there is always some humanity in them. I like to dig out these sides and show the audience my own understanding of the characters.

Q5. Is there anything else about you that you want to share with the public?

For me, I wasn't really thinking about the audience. Viola Davis, she is one of my idol, she said "When we are acting, we are talking somebody else stories." That is what I am doing, that is what I am pursuing all the time.
I get to bring something alive. Audience is part of it, but I have to show them the story. I put myself into a totally different character to tell other's opionion and emotions. This is why I love performance so much! At some points, the audience will see themselves in the story and fell the same ways as the charaters. That is all I need from performance.

Today, I got a chance to interviewed the "Charlie" of Charlie Brown - Nick D'Alberto who gave the character full passion. He wants to share some of his thoughts on this live reading and his aspects of being an actor!

Q1. Can you please give us some background about yourself?

I moved out to LA about three years ago. I was born in upper state New York and grew up there. I was in crier when I was a kid and did a lot of theater. I would like to say that performance became very natural to me.

Q2. Can you tell us which area you want to pursue the most as an actor?

I am trying to focus more in television and film. I grew up with doing a lot of theater but if I only want to do theater, I will stay in New York. (laugh)

Q3. Can you tell us why you choose Charlie Brown?

Eugene and I had a good relationship for two years, he called me for the role plus I love Charlie Brown.

Q4. Is there anything else about you that you want to share with the public?

I am always into the roles of being aliens, monsters and scary figures. It shows some characters of me but definitely not creepy. I want to have the heavy makeup role in the science friction. Is there is one marketable skill from me, I never complaint about difficult situation.

Today, I had a great conversation with "Peppermint Patty" - Jessica Wingen who gave the character full passion. She wants to share some of her thoughts on this live reading and her aspects of being an actress!

Q1. Can you please give us some background about yourself?
I really loved acting since I was a kid. I did a lot of theater in school and this is my main career focus. I work in children’s theater, it is really interesting to work with kids and still be in the field. I hope to get into more television fields.

Q2. Why did you choose Charlie Brown?
I definitely grew up with the story. I definitely love peppermint character who is so strong and funny. I just feel like everyone knows the characters so no one needs to caught up who they are. It is very interesting to put those characters into different stories without telling the background.

Q3. What field you have the most interest in as an actress?
I did a couple of short films and a lot of theater. I did some theater in PCC. I am keep going with the aspect of films in television fields.

Q4. What is the biggest "crisis" you have in your performing life and how did you overcome it?
I was doing a play five years ago, I was in a role of stealing something. I was already sitting on the stage and realized there is nothing behind my back. So I had to leave the stage and grab the stuff from the dressing room. I came back to the stage as calm as possible, it was so hard to do in front of a full crowd of audience.

Today, I had an a great conversation with "Lucy" - Anna Dawahare who gave the character full passion. She wants to share some of her thoughts on this live reading and her aspects of being an actress!

Q1. Can you please give us some background about yourself?

Hello, my name is Anna Dawahare. I am an actor and I have been acting when I was six years old. I have acting in church and throughout school. After I graduated from college which was two and half years ago, I graduated with a degree in drama. I started to act in the real world. Now I am performing in the Murder Mystery company which travel around the places. Like we had a show in Riverside last night which was really fun. I am also working in Starbucks as part time for financial support.  I am very lucky to have supportive people around me so I can pursue my dream.

Q2. Why did you chose Charlie Brown?

I just love the idea of Charlie Brown on Tumbler. Charlie Brown was my favorite show when I was a kid, especially the Christmas special was one of my favorite holiday specials the whole time. I also love the idea of the extreme “if you don’t agree with me, you are the hater!”, especially we are in such a polarized world now days. We should be getting together instead of being separated. I mean the whole mentality of Tumbler is so ridiculous which is the disagreement of political ideas or social ideas can put people into devil category. I just think it will be so much fun to throw these Charlie Brown kids into this situation. Even in the actual Charlie Brown special, there is nothing controverted. This can be related to not only kids but adults, especially in the world that is so divided.

Q3. What is your best or personal favorite moment in your life?

Actually I am always very excited in any chances that I can get. However, I am always very interested in the Second City.

Q4. What is the biggest crisis during your performance life?

For me, because of my personality, I can manage to make the accidents into intended behaviors. There is just one thing that I tend to bring my personal emotions to the performance even though I try so hard to control it. One time, I was not in a good mood and my grandma was sick for a long time. My teammates were mocking me as I am not being flexible. They made this like a sad thing which I couldn’t performance well because of my situation. After a while, this really got under my skin. I was just here to do my job. I ended up finishing my performance with a good jump and split; however, I should be better at controlling my emotions.

Q5. Which areas you have the best interest in?

Because of the Second City, I was part of the sketch team and I got to perform with them. Because of that, I learned how to write, like comedy. I really enjoy being involved from the beginning of the whole process, especially on the creative side. I want to be more involved with the creation of a play or performance.

Anna is willing to share more about her amazing performance career, please see the link as her website:
